My sister ...

... Sarah. She made me play with paper dolls while growing up -

- Enjoy a picture from 1964. I guess this was her high school graduation picture. She gave me a feminine side; the Navy took it away; and Nancy is trying to put it back. :) -

- Correction to the photo. My sister's middle name is DeeAnne not Anne.

From the Past ...

... My mother kept this letter all these years -

March 10, 1975 - 10 cent stamp

From Laura to her grand parents. Laura would be three months shy of being five years old.

Do you see a little ...

... four-year-old hiding in the shadows? It is me. -

- This picture was taken on Mothers' Day in 1952. Front and center is my sister Sarah. She is two years older than I am. I am standing between my brothers John, age nine and George, five months shy of being eight years old. My brother Frank, age 11 is standing behind Sarah. My mother is holding baby Eloise, and my father is holding Lucia, age two. Enjoy a moment in the past. -

Oh so ...

... Good. Yum, Yum, Yummy! -

- Dennis and I went on an adventure to Mt Angel to get an early peek at the Wurst Fest. The Fest actually starts Saturday, but I had heard on Good Morning Portland that the Mt Angel Sausage Company would start Friday afternoon. We ate and listen to German playing the Accordion. Well, maybe she was dressed like a German. Dennis and I test tasted the Fire Alarm #4, and we are still alive, yea! I brought four Fire Alarm #4 brat worst links for my son-in-law Larry. I am excited for his report.

My ...

... Grandfather, a photographer -

- Writing on the picture: Hubert Huntzinger about age 18. His mother, Ida Elisabeth Huntzinger painted the pretty scarf, and Lottie made his dress-up outfit. He loved to dress up and take pictures of himself. He had a beautiful tenor voice and always sang with the family when the family had song and music in the evenings (around an old square style piano). -

- Laura feels a sense of a connection to him, and both are photographers. -

- Enjoy! -

Old Slides ...

... Have Lost Color but Still Tell a Story -

- Neuschwanstein Castle -
- I climbed up behind the castle to take this picture. -

- The picture has lost the beauty of this peacock perched inside the castle. I still think it looks impressive. -

- A swan from inside the castle looks as if it is trying to swim. -

- Pictures taken in 1978. -

Family Dinner ...

... To Celebrate Nancy's Birthday -

- I told Nancy that I would make dinner, and for her to take the day off

- Mango-Avocado Salad. I also made a mango dressing to with the salad. I couldn't find any ripe mango in the produce departments, so off to Costco. I was able to get fresh cut spears.

- The main course was Shepard's Pie. I really enjoyed how this turned out. I use beef gravy instead of tomato sauce.

- We had two cakes. Nancy whipped one together that is a chocolate vegan cake. Her recipe produces a moist and risen cake. It is hard to tell that there are no eggs in the cake. I made the frosting by using a milk-free margin, powdered sugar, and a little water. It was quite tasty.

- Chocolate Hazelnut Banana Cake. I made the cake pictured above. It is a banana cake. each cake was cut in half, and I put nutella in between the two halves. Whipped cream and strawberry puree between the two 9" rounds, and the same on the top. It was a big hit.

- I changed the recipes a little, and I got them from the Blog, Mennonite Girls Can Cook - check out all the recipes posted.

Happy Birthday Nancy!

... Dear Nancy. For the next six months, you and I are the same age. -

- Enjoy some pictures of Nancy's past -

- This is the picture I carried when I left for Navy duties. Nancy's senior picture.

- I love you Nancy.

From the Journal of ...

... of Our Traveling Frog -

He is like a child to Nancy and I, and he calls us mom and dad.

- I get to go to Paris. Here I am with Aunt Joan and Mom. They gave me my own drink. Mom and Joan are smiling to pretty.

- On the plane, kept jumping seats. Here I am with Uncle Larry. I was so excited.

- We are at the Paris Airport. Mom told me to stay inside the bag, but I had to take a look. Wouldn't anyone?

- The shuttle drive was taking to long. I jumped in to drive, and he kicked me out. He was so rude.

- We stayed in the Hotel Queen Mary. I peeked in the window and saw that we were going to stay in a great hotel.

- My first subway ride. The Paris metro is cool.

- Mom and Aunt Joan found a picture of a hot French frog. We looked all over for her, but we couldn't find her. I was disappointed.

- Just squeeze me until it hurts. This French doll and I did the tango at the Paris Hard Rock Cafe.

- It was time to leave, and love was in the air. I told the hotel clerk to kiss me again.

- Laura blogged about a chicken fajita special at Jack in the Box. It is worth the $2.29 for the drink and chicken fajita.

The Start of ...

... Two Adventures. Traveling and visiting Hard Rock Cafes -

- The year was 2000, and our travels with Larry and Joan started with this trip. We are sitting outside of the Paris Hard Rock Cafe. (Paris, France not Paris, Idaho) :)

- After visiting the Paris Hard Rock Cafe, I started to collect Hard Rock Cafe pins from the Hard Rock Cafes that I visited. Including Paris, I have visited 41 Hard Rock Cafes.

- There will be more posts on our travels and Hard Rock Cafes.

- Enjoy!

Michael Jr ...

... spent last night with us -

- We started the adventure with a stop at McDonald's. This is the toy Michael got in his happy meal. He also got a game card, which will come into play later in the adventure.

- Michael worked hard with me in taking down the nutcracker tree and the train. Nancy asked if he would like hot chocolate, and he said yes. One taste, and he said "I don't like it."

- I put Michael down to bed at 10pm. I turned out the lights, TV off, and I laid with him, figuring that he would be asleep in a short time. He talked non-stop for an hour and a half. At 11:30, I figured we should watch the ball come down in New York City. After the new year, I listened to music on my computer and the lad was asleep in twenty minutes.

- In the morning, Michael wanted to go home we talked him into having cereal. About his game card. He treated it like an access card, and he would swipe the doorways before we could go through. It was fun, and we enjoyed having him.

Alivia ...

... A day with a young lady -

- Nancy and Alivia spent hours talking, and Nancy commented that it was like talking to an adult.

- We started the adventure at Taco Bell, and Alivia tried the Mango Freeze, and Nancy tried the Orange and Cream Freeze. I stayed with the usual, diet Pepsi.

- Alivia went to a wedding reception with us. Here she is with the bride and groom. Two beautiful women in this picture.

- Alivia designed her own bracelet. I have a nice supply of beads, and Alivia picked the ones she wanted. In this picture she is arranging the order of the beads. I strung the beads on memory wire.

- The finished product.

Enjoy!
